You are invited to participate in a research study investigating why we are attracted to certain characteristics when choosing partners. Participation is open to anybody aged 18 and over. Participation should take no longer than 10 minutes and involves completing an online survey where you will answer questions about your personality. You will also complete a task where you are asked to make decisions based on the opposite sex. The survey contains sexually explicit items that you may find confronting, please consider this before engaging in the survey. You will also be asked some brief demographic questions about your age, gender, relationship status, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. There is no payment or reward for participating in this study.

The data collected will be presented in Ms. Jacqueline McIntyre’s Honours Dissertation, and may also be presented at academic conferences or published in peer-reviewed journals. The researchers named on this Information Statement may also re-analyse your data later as part of future, related studies. Following completion of the study, all response data may be archived in a data repository and will be saved on password protected computers where it will be stored securely, and only the investigators named in this statement will have access to it. Should the findings of the study be published, data may be placed in a public data repository, which is a large database infrastructure that collects, manages, and stores data sets for the purpose of data analysis, sharing, and reporting. The data collected in this study will be used for this study and may also be used for other projects in the future.

Participation is anonymous and entirely voluntary. Whether or not you decide to participate is your decision and will not disadvantage you. If you decided to participate, you may withdraw yourself and your data from the project at any time (prior to submitting your data at the end of your participation), without reason or consequence. Data cannot be withdrawn once submitted because of its anonymous nature. If you wish to ask any questions prior to participating, please contact either of the named researchers above.
